SNMP Introduction

The WISE-52xx/WISE-224x provides SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) V1 and V2c to work with the SNMP Network Management software for monitoring the system data and I/O module data. The SNMP Setting page allows you to enable or modify the settings of the SNMP function on the WISE-52xx/WISE-224x.

SNMP Setting

    • SNMP Setting Page & SNMP Manager List:

The SNMP setting page is shown as below:

The settings steps are as below:

      1. In the “Version” field, select the SNMP version that you want to use. Currently WISE-52xx/WISE-224x supports SNMP V2c and V1 protocol.

      2. In the “Read Community Name” field, input a string for “Read Community Name” for SNMP function. The default string is “public”.

      3. In the “Write Community Name” field, input a string for “Write Community Name” for SNMP function. The default string is “private”.

      4. In the “Trap Community Name” field, input a string for “Trap Community Name” for the SNMP function. The default string is “public”.

      5. In the “Contact” field, input the “Contact” string.

      6. In the “Location” field, input the “Location” string.

The SNMP Manager List is a list for all SNMP Managers which will interact with the SNMP Agent of WISE-52xx/WISE-224x. Please follow the steps as below to perform the setting for SNMP Managers.

      1. Set up IP Address or domain name of the SNMP Manager that you want to add. Please set up the Address appropriately, if the settings are not the same as the settings of the SNMP Manager, the interaction between WISE-52xx/WISE-224x and the SNMP Manager will be failed.

      1. Click to Enable (or Disable) the working model between the SNMP Manager and the SNMP Agent of WISE-52xx/WISE-224x. Currently WISE-52xx/WISE-224x provides two working models as Read/Write (Polling) and Trap for SNMP Manager.

Please Note: If no “Read/Write” field on the list is enabled to accept the Read/Write commands, indicating that it will allow accepting the Read/Write commands from any SNMP Manager.

        • Read/Write model: It means the SNMP Manager can connect with the WISE-52xx/WISE-224x SNMP Agent for the polling style data read/write operation.
        • Trap model: It means the WISE-52xx/WISE-224x can actively send the SNMP Trap to the SNMP Manager based on the result of IF condition statement.

      1. After completing the IP address and working model setting, please click  button to add the SNMP Manager to the list. After adding the SNMP Manager, click “Save” button to save the changes.

    • SNMP Trap Setting Page:

SNMP Trap function allows WISE-52xx/WISE-224x to initiative sending of the system data and IO channel data to the SNMP Manager (pre-defined in the SNMP Setting of System Setting section) in real time automatically when unusual events occur; so that the SNMP Manager can respond immediately with corresponding operations. The configuration page for SNMP Trap setting is shown as below:

The settings steps are as below:

      1. Input “Nickname” and “Specific ID” and then click  button to create a new SNMP Trap.

      2. To modify the settings of a pre-set SNMP Trap, please click on the radio button in front of the SNMP Trap, and then click on “Setting”, then the SNMP Trap Setting page will be shown as below. You can modify the settings of the SNMP Trap you selected if required.

      1. In the SNMP Trap Setting page, you can input or modify the nickname of the SNMP Trap in the “Nickname” field and you could also input the description of this SNMP Trap in the “Description” field.

      2. Input the Specified ID value of the SNMP Trap in the “Specified ID” field.

      3. Click on “Add new variable bindings” to add the new variable bindings for the SNMP Trap.

      4. After clicking the “Add new variable bindings”, the Variable Binding Setting Page will appear. Select the variable type first. WISE-52xx/WISE-224x provides two variable types as “Channel Data” and “User-Defined Data” for selection. If you select the variable type as “Channel Data” , The setting page interface will be shown as below:

        • “Channel Data” type

        • “User-Defined Data” types

      1. Click the “OK” button to confirm the variable binding setting, and return to the SNMP Trap Setting page.

    1. Repeat steps 5 ~ 7 to complete settings of all variable bindings.

    2. After you finish all the SNMP Trap settings, click “OK” button to confirm the settings, and return to SNMP Trap list.

    3. Repeat steps 1 ~ 9 to complete settings of all SNMP Traps.

    4. After you finish all the SNMP Trap settings, click “Save” button to save the settings.

Users can send SNMP Trap in the Action statement.

Scenario Example Document

Assume an unmanned facility room equips a WISE-5231 controller for temperature monitoring. The temperature sensor is connected to the AI Channel 0 on an I-7018Z module that is connected to the WISE-5231 controller. In this monitoring system, it is required to send out a SNMP Trap to the back-end SNMP manager every minute to report the current temperature of the room for status monitoring and emergency response immediately.
